When we have our family getogether there are always more kids than adults. We also had the same problem you have. What I came up with was having an arts and crafts table. The craft had to stick to a theme turkey and cornucopias for thanksgiving, Santa and snowflakes for Christmas for example. When the kids would finish we would use them for table center pieces. The kids get such a thrill explanning what they did and trying to see who's was the best.

WOW - your kids are too well behaved are they? and they are only 4 & 5. Look out when they are teenagers! Thats tomorrow, if you don't get a better hold on things. Where is your husband during all this? Do the other couples have children? If so, don't invite me for dinner. Forget keeping them occupied. They should be better behaved at their ages. My children wouldn't have survived if they had done ANYTHING like that. Do this - put them on a Honor System - Make a chart and put it on the fridge. For every time they, one or both act out - they loose - something they like, right down to their favorit dresses. Start now to teach them that for every Action (good or bad) - there is a REACTION. Let them choose the items before you start the process. Then they can't argue about it. i.e.; lst infraction - loose TV time. etc,etc
Stick to your guns MOM - or see if you can get on that TV show that send the Nanny to clean up!

Does she try this whilst they're attempting to coach her or only if she is interior the water too long? She is in all probability only somewhat annoyed with the swim instructions. She knows she isn't allowed to hit everyone else which you will relieve herself from stress she hits herself. Ask her if she likes her swim instructions and if no longer then stop them till next 12 months. If she likes the pool shop taking her yet only supply up the swim instructions for now.

I would have my older two kids and older neices (ages 4-8) color and make decorations. especially around the holidays. and we'd usually assign one or two adults to help with cutting, gluing, etc. That was usually a big help. kept them occupied for a while.

Kids love to use their hands. Get some arts-n-crafts (paper, crayons, glue, stickers, pop sticks, etc.), games, puzzles, play doh, and other stuff like that.
