What started the discussion with my Army friend was the illegal Mexican who was a Marine and injured in Iraq, there was talk of deporting him but Bush awarded him his citizenship instead.

Illegal immigrants are not allowed to join the US military. Legal immigrants are allowed to join the military - and are fast-tracked for citizenship as a result.

Several years ago a good set of forged documents could fool a recruiter - however today the Army checks directly with the INS to verify that the applicant is truly a legal resident.

That's a big bullshit.
How could u trust a man who isn't a citizenship to be in the army?
If they hire lots of illegal Mexicans or whatever and them they start to rebel? Don't u know that 90% of the world hate US and if they could they would blow it up?
I'm not American i love America though, i could join the army and i would serve it with pride, from my heart because I'm so thank full to US for lots of good things but if even the Americans become riots and anti-American stuff... Why would they trust non citizens?

I would think they would have to come into the country legally before they could join the army. Many Mexican citizens have done that in the past, particularly when the U.S. has been involved in a war that the individual believes is just, but their own country is not participating, such as WWII.

The recruitment is aimed at legal residents, not people here illegally. And yes, it fast tracks them for citizenship.

This has been done since 2005.

Fortunately, there has to be an established legal entry in order to join. Paper work can be written all day long, but until the processing has taken place, nothing matters.

A naturalized citizen, or legal can join provided certain requirments are met.

yes they can, i have a friend who is a recruiter and he said they help them get their papers to get in on a temporary visa type deal then once in they can pursue their citizenship which is a lot easier and faster than getting it in civilian life. thats why you see a lot of ppl from other countries in the army specifically because their rules are more relaxed. translators are given bigger bonuses and treated better than regular grunts too.

The answer for the question is NO, to be in any military branch you got to be al least a legal resident in the U.S. And even if that's true once inside the military you won't be able to get a good job since all the high tech and security positions required citizenship and secret clearence.

Why not? Anyone who wants to take up arms is a friend of the government. You know they want nothing to do with the actual business of going to war. They just want to tell troops where to go. Besides, if they let them in the military, they can tax them and perpetuate the whole fraud of propping up an ailing infrastructure.

this is the loop hole in our immigration laws. It is legal and a way for them to gain citizenship.
