He came to us five years ago as a stray, and we never really knew how old he was. He is black all over, and looks a lot like a cross breed Scotty. He's slightly longer though, and has a different shape head, plus his legs are shorter. The top half of his fur is dead strait and the bottom half is curly. Here is a picture of his face:

and here's a full body shot.

Any help would be appreciated - i know he isn't a full breed Scotty.

I'd say Scotty and Norfolk

Your dog looks like a black Yorkie X maybe Skye terrier don't know where the solid black comes from though.
I have a mongrel who is partly Border Collie and its anyone's guess what the other part is??? But we love him.

One of your other answerer's looks like he is having a breakdown of some kind!!!

Half the fun of owning a mongrel (Mr/ms GitEmGang) is trying to guess what the cross is! You must be a dreaful dog snob!!

it looks like a sottie/cairn terrier/dachshund mix. Its not stocky like a scot, but it has a similar coat, but a rough texture. That would be the reason for my cairn suggestion..as well as they face shape. I'd go with the dachshund aswell because of the shape and length of its body..its too slender to be a basset hound mix. Why try to tell anyway. Just say its a heinz 57!

The Yorkie stands out a mile in him & the rest looks more Skye than scottie - but hey who cares what he is! Far better to be a unique, one-off mutt than a mass produced pedigree.
If you want to do anything fun with him & meet loads more gorgeous mutts, check out the Crossbreed & Mongrel Club www.crossbreed-and-mongrel-club.org.uk

Check out Skye Terriers. Might be a Skye/Scottie cross, or a Skye mixed with some other terrier or poodle (the curly fur).

I have a toy poodle Pomeranian...looks just like your pup only mine dog weighs in at 6 pounds.

I also went looking through a dog book and found an affenpinscher...looks just like my Poo-Pom.

You say cross breed Scotty? Could be Poodle Scotty ... does his tail curl up like a Pomeranian? cuz it could be a Scotty Pomeranian...oh the joys of finding out the Mommy and Daddy!

My lil Poo-Pom mated with a teacup Chihuahua so now I also have a Tea-Chi-poo-pom! looks more like a Toy Minature Pinscher! check out the pics on www.myspace.com/gabie800

there is a slide show on my page there and my pups are on a few. check it out

To me he looks a little like a Cairn Terrier - but their ears aren't quite as floppy as your little lads.

I've found a photo of a Cairn/Westie hybrid (A Cairland Terrier) the second one down on the page that but for the colour could be similar)
http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/cairlandterrier.htm
It all depends on just how floppy your lad's ears actually are, lol.

Link to photos of Scoodles (Scottie/Poodle) mixes:

Their ears are floppy & they don't look that curly... hmm what do you think?

I also wondered if there was a bit of Skye Terriers in the mix - scroll down to look at the photos of Magic - Skye Terriers have quite long bodies:

Your lad looks a really handsome chap though - whatever he is, you probably can't help but love him!

I'm not sure about the scottie at all as they are short haired and a lot bigger and their face is totally different. I reckon its a bit of a westie (obviously not the colouring) and maybe a laso apso or however you spell it. Also a bit of cousin IT in there as well. HA HA - only joking he looks a sweetie x
