Try to remeber the good times, and don't allow yourself to focus on your odg's illness and suffering. But, play with the dog in your mind..Relive the good old days. Don't be ashamed of grieving. Grieve all you need. Each day will get just a little better..

Nothing can take away your pain, or ease your suffering. Time will help you deal with the loss though.
If its not too soon, try adopting a pound dog. You'll be saving that dog, and fill the emptiness in your home.
My heart goes out to you. Animals are really like family. They can be your fur kids, a hairy bro/sis, and a best friend.
I like the idea that the previous person suggested about ashes and flowers. Its a beautiful idea.

Loosing a dog is like loosing a best friend or a child.
Dogs, cats and other animals that people have is important because it is our best companion or buddy.
Studies have shown that people who own pets have helped keep their blood pressure down, and keep depression down.
I would suggest two things:
1. Make a memorial or special spot where you can go to remember the good times and grieve.
2. Go to your local humane society and look at the different dogs that are there for adoption. Each dog has its own character by the way he or she acts. You will find a dog that you will like as your heart will begin to mealt when you see the one you like. Adopt the dog.
I just adopted a Rat/Wolf Terrier mix from my local humane society one week ago from today. I looked at many dogs and came across K. C. Just looking at him and how he reacted started mealting my heart. They took K. C. out of his pen. I put my hand by his nose so he could sniff, but he didnt sniff me, he immediatley started licking my hand. My hands were clean so there was no scent of food on them. Once K. C. started licking my hand, it was over....I mealted. K. C. is house broken, has allready been neutered, likes children and other pets and even has a microchip in him in case he gets out side without me knowing it and gets lost. He is very loveable and always wants to sit on my lap and sleeps with me at night. Now I have a new dog and K. C. has been spared from being put to death. He saved my life and I saved his life.
There are many dogs that are in the humane society as strays, or as turn ins due to the owners not wanting them anymore. The humane societies can only keep these animals for so long as they get over crowded with these animals.
I am truley sorry for the loss of your dog and I hope that this information helps.
Good Luck :-)

I share your pain, for I, too, have lost a dog. Although he was only 3 years old, it seemed as if I knew him forever also. He was my buddy and I still miss him.
As other persons have said....time helps with the hurt. Now, I can think of my dog without crying and feeling sad. I, too, had my dog cremated. I thought about a burial...but decided on cremation. His ashes were placed in an urn that has a Chow-Chow on it (the breed of my dog). Sometimes as I pass by the urn, I'll softly call out my dog's name and say hello. I do have another Chow-Chow, ...not to replace my dog that died...but to fill that void that I had in my heart.
My advice......allow yourself to grieve...your dog meant a lot to you.. it's natural and ok to be sad and yes,,,to even cry. If it will comfort you to have her ashes with you....then do so. If it comforts you to hold on to one of her favorite toys or a blanket....then do so. If it is better for you to not see the visible reminders of her for awhile....then put them away. For me, it was a combination of the above, plus the memory of the fun times with my dog.
I know you're hurting; hope my response helps you.

We just lost our dog 3 wks ago. We had him 15 years. He was awesome. Nothing makes you feel better but time. I bought a dog statue and put it on the front porch last week so it would feel like he was still protecting us. My girls told me "Luke", our dog, was an indoor dog and that statue had to be inside. He is now watching over us in the living room. I wish you luck in how you cope with your loss. Good Luck!

How sad for you. Grieve, cry, feel sad but remember what a special dog you had. I still cry at times when I think of our shepherd we put down 7 years ago. She was a wonderful companion to my kids and myself and we all still miss her. We now have another shepherd and a westie- they don't replace the dog we said goodbye to but they have again filled our lives with joy. The hurt will get less. You are lucky to have had such a special friend. LOL.

Memories are wonderful and very soothing. Of course, the only real answer is time. You need to grieve and be sad for awhile but the pain of course will eventually lessen. I wish you all the best and may your grief be quelled swiftly.

You could donate some bags of dog food to the local animal shelter in his name. You could also volenteer some of your time there also. You could offer to walk a neighbors dog. Don't look in look out of yourself. Sorry for your loss.
