Increase her potassium. She doesn't have to take a supplement really, it's found in bananas. If at night, she wakes up with a cramp or they start to cramp, tell her to take a teaspoon of mustard-right from the jar. I KNOW it sounds gross but it works. My boyfriend was on the football team at school, and this is what the coach would tell them to do if their legs starting cramping.

have been having excruciating left leg and foot/toes cramps at night. have had to get up 10-20 times to stand at my bedside just trying to get the darn cramp to relax. read an article on here someplace and got the idea NOT to lay with legs elongated/straight, but to try sleeping on my side with leg/s bent in a normal side-lying fashion. Have NOT had any leg/foot cramps for the 3 nights I've consciously slept like this. No having to stand at my bedside! my electrolytes, Mg,Ca,K,Na are all within normal range.

Vitamin E 400 IU twice a day may help.
Also take a calcium-magnesium-zinc pill with each meal.
Prevention sells a Diabetic Support Multivtamin that may also be useful.
European doctors give lipoic acid 300-600 mg a day for diabetic neuropathy relief. A B100 complex daily may also be helpful.

Eat a banana a day, and she will not get cramps. High in potassium, and taste good too.
