I just take mine to the vet the few times it has happened. It comes most commonly from them eating fleas. The vet gives them a shot and it kills all the worms, without any effect on the cats. Also check them for fleas and get rid of those - or the worms will be back.

Take your cat to the veterinarian. What you see are the segments of tape worm(s). As far as I know, at least where I live there are no over the counter medications for tape worm removal. This is something that has a multiple step treatment system( or it used to when one of my cats needed it). Don't let this go on too long. Depending on the severity of the infestation and the age and health of your cat, you could land up with a very sick kitty if these worms aren't treated. Also try to keep up with flea treatments to keep the cat flea free. Tape worms are transmitted by the bites of infected fleas. Good Luck! LL

Does it look like a little piece of rice, but it crawls along? That's a tapeworm. Take tabby to the vet. If you have any other cats or dogs in the house, take them along, too. They probably all have worms.

That's easy to recognise as shedded segments from a tape worm. They are not worms and don't move. One pill from the vet will take care of it. Because it comes from ingesting fleas another one will be on the scene in future if you don't keep fleas off your cat.

It doesn't cost alot to get the vet to check for worms and he can tell you exactly what to use and how much for your cat's size. The over the counter stuff isn't good at all. It cost me $15 to get my cat checked and medicated. Good luck!

Go to vet, bring fecal sample, find out if there are other parasites other than the tapeworms.
Next talk to your vet about flea prevention (where tapeworms come from). Revolution works well b/c it protects against fleas, heartworms, ear mites, and other intestinal parasites.
Good luck!
