I have a vertical red line that developed from the left side of my left ankle, upwards 6 inches that hurts?

the strange thing is, it only hurts when I am laying down, not when I walk, run or sit or exercise. When it hurts it pulsates and the pain can be severe. There is no inflammation. There was no trauma.
What could this involve under my skin?

I badly sprained my ankle about 3 weeks ago. I was in a hurry going down the stairs, lost my balance and landed on a bad side of my left foot, causing my left ankle to be stretched going on the inside. i aint a dr but a red line in ur skind means that u ahve tetnis. think back and try and member if u stabbed ur self with sumtin rusty on accident
