I think Jesus called men only to be Apostles because they could leave their families to spread the good news, wheras the women really couldn't leave their children or spouses. The women in that time just weren't taken seriously enough to send out in the way Jesus needed them to.
FYI A Disciple is any follower of Jesus, there were hundreds in Jesus' time, and you are one now if you follow his teachings and evanglize. The 12 Apostles were specially chosen by Jesus for "special" assignments", and are specifically named in the Bible.
Did not the Apostles vote on who was to replace Judus..... and Mathias was chosen? Is this not Apostolic succession? Please, Jesus did not itend for all of the healing and forgiving and baptizing and preaching and teaching to stop once the Apostles died off. He said the Holy Spirit would continue to reveal itself to His followers after he ascended to heaven.

If the Bible were ever to become authoritative in the Catholic Church, there would certainly be no priests.
The Old Testament priesthood was not carried over into the New Testament period (Hebrews 3:1; 4:14; 5:5; 7:10-23, v. 26; 8:1; 9:11; 10:21).
The term priest is never applied to a church leader. The Law on which it was based was abolished (Hebrews 7:12, 18-22; 8:7-13).
Under the new covenant there was only one priest, the High Priest Jesus Christ.
All members of the body of Christ can approach God through their High Priest, Jesus Christ without any man being in-between (Romans 5:2; Ephesians 2:18). Paul warned about following a false Christ (2 Cor. 11:4).
A false Christ (priest) sits in a confessional forgiving and retaining sins.
Confess sins only to our Great High Priest, Jesus Christ. Jesus forgives and cleanses us from all unrighteousness every time (1 John 1:9).
False Church teaches that whether or not a priest is an adulterer, a sodomite, an alcoholic or even a ped@phile, he can still forgive sins.
If a priest is a ped@phile and has molested hundreds of little boys, these False church still maintains that this man can mediate between man and God.
These False Church theology states that a priest currently involved in Mortal Sins may still forgive sins. Truly, these are "Doctrines That Demons Teach".
Regarding the 12 Apostles...
The 12 apostles were made in this manner and they also could speak in tongues, prophesy and work miracles but could not pass the power to others. Acts 8:4-6, 14-19
The 12 apostles and they alone, were the chosen ambassadors of Christ through which we are reconciled to God. 2 Cor. 5:20
When the 12 apostles and prophets approached their deaths they did not give successors to take their places. Instead, they left their inspired writings "The Bible".
Peter said, "Moreover I will endeavor that even after my death you may often have occasion to call these things to mind. 2 Pet. 1:15
The words of Jesus were spoken to the apostles only. There is no mention of successors in the verses.
The apostle Paul said concerning the gospel, "It has been preached to every creature under heaven..." Col. 1:23 The task of unerringly revealing the gospel was completed by the apostles and their many helpers.

The Bible doesn't specifically prohibit women being ministers of the Gospel. God uses both men and women for His purposes. While it's true that mainly men were used by God in Scripture, there are also instances where He used women. You can check the book of Judges Chapter 4, the book of Esther, the book of Ruth, Josh.2:1-21, Acts21:9. As to why Jesus chose whom He did, you'd have to ask Him because the Bible doesn't say. Not all Christian churches prohibit women at the pulpit. An excellent example of a Christian church which ordains men and women is The Salvation Army. You could contact them or visit a Salvation Army book store -usually called Trade stores- for more information on this subject. I can tell you why I think that women aren't frequently used by God as ministers and it's found in Gen.3:15. What you read in this verse is God's judgement on Eve for disobeying God's command not to eat the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and for giving this fruit to her husband to eat. To get the whole story in context read the entire 3rd chapter of Genesis. God judged each individual for his/her part in this disobedience. The result of Eve's sin is that men have indeed ruled over women throughout recorded history and they give birth in great pain. This doesn't mean the Bible considers men better than women, by the way, because that isn't what it teaches. Many times some men quote parts of the Bible in an attempt to excuse their mistreatment of men. IE:"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife"-Eph.5:22-24. Then these individuals stop here. This is taking the Bible out of context. Simply read on in the same chapter and these men will quickly learn that the mistreatment of women, wives or otherwise, and the discrimination against women can't be justified by using the Bible. The Bible also tells husbands and wives to "submit to one another".

1 Corinthians 14:35 If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.
Ephesians 5:23 For the husband is the head of the wife as Christ is the head of the church, his body, of which he is the Savior.
I do not believe that women are "lesser beings" than men but I do not believe that they should be pastors/priests/ministers, etc. The male is the head.

The men Jesus chose to follow him were disciples, those who saw the risen Christ were apostles. Since Judas Iscariot committed suicide before Jesus died he is not an apostle. Mary Magdalen (sp) and the holy women were the first to see the risen Christ and deliver the news to the disciples., therefore Mary M and the other holy women were the first apostles

Have you listen to your heart lately specially when you ask this question? I thought so your not hah Well the reason you have doubt is when you never listen. Man have long hair those but it never fall below the shoulder or they will be mistaken as a woman.
Man and woman have almost the same outfit as everyone do in those day. the only diffrence when you are looking a their back man have shorter hair and woman have longer hair mostly down to their waist. So you can distinguise which man and which is woman,
So see the last supper painted by michael angelo and interpreted by leonardo da vinci. Count how many people in this last supper.

Yes Jesus had 12 apostles that were men. However, there were several prominent women in the bible. Mary Magdeline - and the women that Jesus chose to reveal himself to when he rose from the grave. Here is a web-site that may help...

Mary Magdalene, the name itself invokes images of the repentant prostitute, yet that isn't the Mary Magdalene of the Bible. Mary Magdalene wasn't even her name. "Magdalene" tells us from what region she came. It wasn't her job description or her last name. Far from being a fallen woman, the Mary Magdalene of the Bible was a strong and courageous disciple of Christ.
Mattew 27:55-56:
Many women were also there, looking on from a distance; they had followed Jesus from Galilee and had provided for him. Among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.
Mark 15:40-41:
There were also women looking on from a distance; among them were Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James the younger and of Joses, and Salome. These used to follow him and provided for him when he was in Galilee; and there were many other women who had come up with him to Jerusalem.
Mary stayed with Jesus, watching "from a distance" as He endured the crucification. Her faithfulness is an example to every Christian. Also, notice that the passage indicates, "provided for him". Mary, like the other women around Jesus, weren't just hangers-on or dependents. They provided for Him, supported Him.
Mark 15:47
Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses saw where the body was laid.
Mary followed Jesus even after His death. She waited to see where His body would be placed.

RIGHT ON ms Ang. Mary wasn't the "woman of the street" as the church has somewhat portrayed her, check out the gospels. There are like, 4 Marys in the gospels, it's important to get them sorted out (the problem seems to lie in the anointing stories in each gospel). However, none of them were prosititues.
