Well, if enough idiots start posting this latest conspiracy theory on Yahoo Answers, all the young people who frequent this place will eventually start to believe that World War 2 never happened.

We've seen this already with the Moon landing "hoax" theory, and 9/11 conspiracy, so I'm sure it's just around the corner for these mental midgets.

No, the USA didn't know in advance about the attack, and that's what hurts most US folk. David really slew Goliath with that attack.

The problem is that the USA really took a kicking from the Japanese, so it makes people feel better to think that somehow the USA knew of the Japanese plan all along. That somehow they weren't really caught with their pants down.

The original plan was for the attack to take place 2 months earlier, which if it had happened, would have been potentially more damaging to the USA, as the aircraft carriers would have been in Pearl Harbor at that time.

The fact that 5 of the 8 US battleships were sunk was a real bonus for the Japanese. They hoped to sink 2-3 at best.

It's like 9/11. A group of wannabe hijackers delivery a bloody nose to the USA and what happens ? Many people start saying that it HAD to be a conspiracy. It couldn't have happened otherwise.

If the USA had know in advance about the attack on Pearl Harbor they would have ordered the battleships to sea just prior to that dawn attack, as it would have been too late for the Japanese to call off the attack, but would have given the USA a real chance of maintaining a substantial Pacific fleet.

The reality is that the battleships were more valuable than the aircraft carriers, and the USA would certainly have wanted to save them in preference to the aircraft carriers.

Great...now all the conspiracy clowns who believe 9/11 was done my the US government, the moon landing was filmed in a San Berdo, CA studio, etc will now start posting THE US KNEW ABOUT THE ATTACK ON PEARL HARBOR.

Hell....suddenly video on YouTube will show up.

And 75% of the people under the age of 25 on Y Answers will agree but haven't a clue when the attack occurred!

To answer you Q....today, perhaps 15% believe the US government knew it was going to happen.

If you mean who believes the Japanese conspired against the Americans by bombing Pearl Harbor? Well, my gosh, I hope 100 percent, but that would imply that the entire American population is intelligent so I will knock it down a few notches by stating 99.98%?

But I know what you are really saying and I would like to see someone ask veteran's who survived the attack the same question.

Yes the government knew about the attack, but no one believed that it could be done, if you do your research you will discover this and most of the articles will have their version and none of them are the same, but if you listen to the government themselves they will openly tell you they knew, so there was no conspiracy, just bad judgment, and most of all alot of grief and sorrow. i hope this helps you, good luck

FDR knew the attack was coming. He wanted the attack.
But there was no conspiracy.
But when people found out he knew ahead of time, they keep quiet about it.
Like Tom Dewey who ran against FDR, he found out and covered it up, because it would have destroyed the country.
Maybe that's why Bush and Republicans didn't have Clinton charged with Treason.
They were afraid it would destroy our country.
Who knows?
