It is bad. This is because:
Limewire contains something called Ad ware. This means that Limewire holds all of your details like your name, address, telephone number and even bank details. Once you reach a limit of 900 files, Limewire will send a massive bill to your house. If this bill is not paid, Limewire will take it from your bank. You can't report this because it will be your own fault. This has happened to a friend of mine. To prevent this from happening, make a new folder and store all of your files in that folder. If you store your files in the shared folder, Limewire will have a record of it. I want everyone to be aware of downloading music illegally. I use Limewire and i save all of my files in another folder.

Hi there,
Here you can find a good place where to download Limewire: http://j.mp/VMemWi
Limewire is good software i still use it to this day. I really like Limewire, I'm actually an avid user of it. If I want to download a music file I use Limewire always. If you are looking for a good peer to peer software to download music, softwares/programs and videos you should get limewire too.
It's a safe and reliable pogram but like all peer to peer program you have to be careful of what you are donwloading from it. It does not matter what P2P program you use, you always have to be cautious about what you download.
Don't use torrents/downloads from other sites, they might be backdoored.
I guess it's the sotware you need.
Regards

Limewire is a Peer to Peer program, which allows many users to share their files. People like vets, doctors and scientists around the world use P2P programs to share information.
If you only share files to which you own copyright, and only download files on which the person offering them owns copyright, then it would be completely legal. But most of us aren't musicians or program writers. So people share stuff illegally.
Spain has dealt with the problem, not by enforcing copyright legislation, but by making P2P illegal. But unless you live in Spain you're ok.
The biggest problem is that people install Limewire on an administrators account; and download infected files. Connect to the internet using a limited account because most software cannot install on a limited account. That limits the amount of damage that a virus or spyware can do.
You also need to set Windows to show file extensions. A file called 'music.mp3.exe' is not a music track, its an executable file so probably a virus or trojan.
Open any folder, click Tools - Folder Options - View. Make sure the 'hide file extensions for known file types' box is unticked, save the changes and from then on Windows will show file extensions. Check them carefully before you download.
And run some serious security software because your downloads are bypassing your firewall. There's a list on my blog - use all of it!
Download to the desktop on a limited account, right click on the file and select 'scan with'; scan the file with your anti virus and anti spyware.
And if you use Avast! anti virus it will also scan the files as you download them, and will break the internet connection of they contain a known virus.
Teach your kids to be sceptical about anything thats offered free. That goes for websites and download sites.
And show them how to use your security software to keep the pc clean.

Downloading Limewire is not illegal. The uses to which many people put it are illegal.
If your son is only planning to download legal, public domain files, no problem. He probably wants to download MP3s of copyrighted music, which IS illegal.
From one parent to another, you should also be aware that there are vast quantities of pornography downloadable via Limewire. You may want to take this into consideration in making your decision.

Limewire software itself is not illegal.
Using it to download Copyrighted Movies, Music, Video Games and Software IS 100% illegal!
99% of Limewire users use it illegally.
Your son can be part of that group too if you let him.
It is also the number one way that files containing viruses, spyware, trojans and browser hijackers get distributed.

hey, Well before i asked this question. Limewire is totally free, but downloading copyrighted material such as songs,vids,text.etc. is illegal. My self has been using limewire a while because there are too many p2p users for everyone to get sued. But i strongly suggest it. Just run this program called "Peer Guardian" when you use limewire, it helps prevent government IP to search your computer for things. Hoped it helped ;-)

No it's so not illegal at all. I mean think about it the governmetn knows everything about every person in America so u know if it were illegal they would just pull the plug on the website altogether and stop all music downloads and other downloads so no i have it its awesome and its not illegal you can only be in trouble with that piracy of music thing if you are actually seen downloading the music while your in the act of taking it. You can't even get in trouble if you brought the FBI into your home and said look here's my desktop and there's limewire only if you are actually witnessed taking the music can you be in trouble everyone downloads music and you will only get in trouble if you download stuff from say Napster illegally or iTunes.

The software isn't illegal, but most of the stuff that can be downloaded from it is. Hardly any of it has a licence, but you can set limewire so you only download files with a licence, but this is next to none. Its not very good, even if you want to download illegal stuff anyway!
