Theoretically yes, an atheist could. A-theist just means without belief in GOD.
But practically, I've never heard of one who believed in heaven-without-god. Once you're atheist you pretty much toss the whole afterlife cookie.

Since the definition of atheist is just one who lacks a belief in gods, I am sure there are plenty of people who believe in some sort of afterlife who are atheists. Many Buddhists for example do not believe in Gods, yet believe their death is not the final end of their consciousness. There are also people who believe in what is called quantum immortality. Which is the idea that within an infinite multiverse there are many exact copies of our brains and that some copies will continue to survive. And of course there are the atheists who hope medical science will somehow be able to prevent their death from happening in the first place.

If you believe in self-determination, then I think it is possible for there to be a heaven without God. If there is a finite definition of good and evil sans diety - which I think there is - than the good can go congegrate with the good after death and the bad with the bad. Though I doubt there would be any sort of firey lake of doom or angels playing harps. If we can create our own fate in this world, I don't think you need a god to believe there's a soul that can do the same after death. I think it's along the lines of a party or a bar - you can go and have a good time just hanging out without needing an MC or someone there to direct the festivities or make you play pin the tail on the donkey. Does that make sense?

I guess so. But how would you explain it? There could be spirituality... for example... but would you know of it if not for God or the Bible or what have you. Some Eastern religions believe in the afterlife and spirituality without the monotheistic god. Fact is that you can believe anything you want to, it may be contradictory, but who are we to stop you.
As an atheist I don't believe in Heaven.

There can if that is what you want to believe. Without proof of afterlife, people can only have hope there is afterlife. What does god have to do with it? Christians believe in an afterlife, and they believe in god; Hindus believe in afterlife, and they believe in many gods; Buddhist believe it and they do not believe there is a god.
Wow, a lot of you people are prejudice against people who don't believe there is a god. I see a lot of thumbs up for people who believe in god, and a lot of thumbs down for those who don't.

I'm an atheist and of course I believe in an afterlife: after I die, life goes on for anybody who's not dead.

Views beyond a deity can vary. I don't believe in a "heaven" (or a hell or any other religion associated things), though I have my own thoughts on maybe there could potentially be a form of continued existence, but still very connected to this world and nothing to do with a god or religion.

through no skill heard of an Indian chief being an Atheist. they in lots of circumstances have self assurance contained contained in the magnificent Father do not they? What made you imagine Catholics have self assurance that? it would want to be a Catholic who isn't a real Christian who cautioned you that. some bypass to church and telephone themselves Catholic basically because they bypass to a Catholic church yet they don't look authentic Christians. All authentic Christians have self assurance firmly contained contained in the Bible and understand what it says. Atheists isn't waiting to to to heaven till finally they repent and commence believing and trusting in Jesus for a replace.

Sure. Then you would have to ask the question, who is in charge? How did it get there? It does contradict science, so what would be the basis for the belief? I suppose one could belive in anything, even a purple dragon that brings candy to children while they sleep, but what is the basis of such a belief? Therefore, it would be just as silly for an Atheist to belive in Heaven as it would a Christian to belive in a purple dragon, as there would be no basis for either.

I can't honestly imagine how, despite earlier answerers. It's up to the individual, of course. But the reasoning behind the denial of God, that we do not believe anything if there is no evidence to support that belief, applies equally to heaven, as it does pixies, Santa Claus and Ted Haggard's integrity.
