does anyone know where i can get a good loyal hunting retreiver for a low price? also am i going after the right dog? tell me what you think...thanks!

i mean not to catch them i have a nice gun to kill them i mean to bring them back to me, my friend was sayin they werent very good for retreiveing even though they are called retreivers, and will they be able to find the squirrel easily once it falls outta the tree?

Get a Cur,Feist, coonhound.....even some JRT can be taught to "look UP"!
You need a dog w/a **NOSE***!!!! That wants to HUNT!!! NOT a "ball-fetcher"!!!!

Rat terrier/beagle dogs are the best squirrel hunting dogs. They are easy to train and faster than a speeding bullet. My dad likes to squirrel hunt and those are the only dogs I know of that he's used.

A labrador is a better hunting dog than a golden retriever.
Make sure that you keep up on all vaccinations as small wild animals often have rabies and other diseases.

Not suitable for squirrel hunting, they would only do it to please you. They are also quite intelligent and lazy, so you might have a problem with that, if you're competitive.
Terriers, or spaniels are better for your purposes.

I would get a black lab. My family has had them for years. i don't care for golden retrievers. They are not as smart as labs.
