Yes! They are awesome! My neighbour has one and breeds it. There are tons of kids on the street and the dog loves them! Plus they don't shed! Less clean up for you...

I have a Shih Tzu name Princess I have her cut every six weeks She does not bark a lot. She is very friendly, she is a fraid of nothing. She make funny cute sounds We have a fence back yard, it took us a week to fix all the small spots she can get out. I think Shih Tzu's are the prefect size, around 15 pounds She is a happy little dog. She digs down. I would get another Shih tzu Like people, dogs are as different as night and day The same parents, can have dogs totaly different. You need to remember this.

It's not so much how friendly is the dog, but how your children respect the dog. Statistics show that the majority of dog bites to children's faces come from small dogs when the child picks it up or plays too roughly with it. Shih Tzu's are small, very friendly dogs and fit into families very well, so you should have no problems provided you teach the kids what and what not to do with a pet dog. Enjoy your new pet, it will bring a whole new meaning to you and your family's life.

I've had 2 shih tzu's and they were the best dogs I ever had. I had mine since they were very young until they were 16 so I was able to train them from a pup. I never had any problems and they were the friendliest, softest, cuddliest dogs ever.
However, I know that some Shih Tzu's can be snappy, but I'm sure if you have one and have the patience to train him/her (one of mine was stubborn to train but I got there eventually!), I'm sure you'll end up with a lovely family pet.

yes, I bought one when my daughter was 1 She pulled and draged that dog everywhere. The dog even would sleep in her room instead of ares. Some one stold her last christmas and my daughter is still looking for her best friend. The only thing about shih tzu is the when they get up set at you they do to the bathroom on your bed. When I got pregnent with my son, the dog would go pee on my side of the bed only (totaling potty trained) when I left the house.

I have one and also have a seven and three year old sons. The dog is very friendly and loving. he loves to run and chase my boys and they play well together. Shih tzu's are very calm well mannered dogs. I will warn you though they can be a little tough to house break. Just be patient they will get the hang of it.

My daughter has a 15 month old and they have a shih tzu. The dog is so mellow and just lies there while granddaugher hugs and pets on it.

Get a labrador or retriever. They're not as smart as other dogs, but they have a lot of energy to play with 4 kids. Shih tzu's can be hyper and snappy.
