All of the wedding magazines say it takes a year to plan the wedding so I would say about a year. If you don't live in a big city though it shouldn't take you that long to plan things. You could get it all done in 6-8 months if you really wanted to.

I've told my boyfriend that when we get engaged I want a long engagement (3 years) We've been together 2 years and have been living together for a year and a half. I'm 19 next week and he's 23. We plan on getting engaged in the next year.
I want a long engagement because I know I'm young and I want to wait til I'm a bit older before I get married. I believe engagement is the next step in the relationship.
I've heard of people being engaged for 10 years and some people only being engaged for a week! so it really just depends on when you're ready as a couple to get married. Each couple is individual.

I think one year is typical. However, I had 2 1/2 months, my bff had 3 months, and my other bff is taking 28 months!! All depends on the bride and groom and what is going on in their lives!

Most people say one year. I say whenever you're ready...you can plan a gorgeous wedding in 6 months. Even less if you aren't a detail freak.

I would recommend as short an engagement as possible if you dated for a while and saved sex for marriage...
