I bought a black and white geometric comforter and I don't know what color to paint my room. I can only paint the trim in my room (doors, around windows, etc.). I really wanted to use black, but I was told no because its too hard to cover up. I was considering a pink or something.. but I really want my room to focus on the black and white and I think that would focus more on pink. I was thinking maybe a grey... would that work? Any suggestions?

If you really want to use black, do it. It isn't too hard to cover up. All you have to do is use an oil-based primer to cover it and you can then cover the oil-based primer with about 2 coats of almost any color latex paint. Just make sure that whoever puts the primer on knows how to do so as thick as possible without making a mess. Keep in mind one thing: if you do it total black like a grand piano black, you will find the atmosphere to be very stark, sooner or later. Have you thought about charcoal black? This could be an option and opens up a whole option of the grey family colors... And grey is an easy cover up after. And it will also keep your focus on the B&W theme of the room. If you really want the same black as the comforter, you will need to add a third color, just to harmonize things. That's where your pink could come in... curtains, cushions, area rugs, lampshades, etc., could be pink or a couple of shades of pink (don't stray far in the shades).

Have you thought about using a neutral color in there? Black is the mixture of all colors and white is the absence of color. A very rich taupe-beige color would even things out, keep your attention on the black & white and warm up the room. It's also an easy color to cover up and can easily be matched with any accessories. It would also look great with black curtains and would give your room a zen feeling, but if you want zen, make sure to add just a touch of red somewhere in the room and an object with natural fibers such as bamboo, straw, leather, suede... It all boils down to what you want your room to be for you: a great place to party (go with lime green), a funky room to hang around in (go with pink), a haven to unwind in after a hectic and sometimes difficult day (go with taupe and the zen feeling) Whatever you choose, just keep this in mind: it's only paint... and IT CAN BE PAINTED AGAIN! Enjoy yourself!

If you can only paint the trim, then I would suggest painting it a bright glossy white. This would really focus on the whole black/white theme. Plus, the look of white trim is very clean. If you need a shot of color try pink or red accessories, or paint the trim white with a small red or pink pinstripe.

I think pink would be really nice. In fact, I went to the Sherman Williams website and clicked on painting an interior bedroom. The walls were white, the bedding black, and the complementary color they suggested was Hibiscus #6851. Check it out, it think it would be awesome. I reminds me of Good & Plenty candies.

I wouldn't paint the trim any color but white. Then I would accessorize with black, white, and a bright yellow.

No don't do grey!! That would look too mucky. If you like pink pick a shade that you like that is preferably sharp because it will constast nicely with the black and white.
