In the Love chapter of 1 Corinthians Paul the Apostle tell us that having Love is greater than offering your body to be burned.. So cremation it a proper Christan method for disposal of a human body.. Jim
1Cor 13:3
And though I bestow all my goods to feed the poor, and though I give my body to be burned, and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

No, the Bible doesn't give any commandments on how to bury people. The Apostlen Paul made it clear that cultural differences and local customs had nothing to do with salvation of the soul.
If cremation were bad, there would be a lot of Christians in trouble over the years who have been burned alive, eaten by animals, thrown into the ocean, or other such destinations. I believe that, no matter what happens to your body, when your sould is gone it's gone and that shell of a body isn't really important.

I'm a Christian and an astronomer. You can mock people of faith all you want but they all believe God made the heavens and Earth. You can argue all you want whether or not the Big Bang is science trying to prove Genesis. Any way you look at it, there are more stars than anyone knows and the universe may be bigger than ever thought or believed. If only the Milky Way were all of the universe, there would be more stars able to have planets similar to ours than we can count. Nobody can prove or disprove ET's and when we find out for sure, I hope I'm around to see it. I'm not a theologian and they certainly wouldn't waste time on this site and you are certainly not a theologian so when somebody argues with you on this site it won't matter to anyone but you. Do you believe in ET? I'm Christian and I believe in ET. It doesn't make either of us crazy or wrong it just says that nobody can answer that. Don't try to make fun of others faith. It only makes you look small.

It is not mentioned in the bible. So it becomes an individual's choice to be cremated or not to be. If the bones decay and rot and become "ash" I don't think there would be anything wrong in getting a jump start on the ashes. It seems to be a cleaner more efficient way to dispose of a body and as far as I'm concerned cheaper by far. Although many can't come to terms with burning the body of a loved one. That's okay too.
If I might add, the Jews of the bible did bury their dead. However, they didn't embalm then nor do they now. So if we are to take that as an example then one shouldn't be embalmed either. I think God in his love and care understands that everyone will grieve in their own manner and dispose of loved ones in their own way. He is able to resurrect any bones (as he did in the old testament) to make a new body, regardless of the present condition when he returns.

Nowhere in the bible does God tell us how to bury our dead, since we will receive new bodies, the old ones are no longer needed. There is nothing for or against cremation in Christianity.

I personally believe, that the land should be utilized for the living. Land for mass housing instead of cemetery. In Tibet deads were not buried but were fed to the vultures, In India I think, they burn the carcass in a makeshift boat while it sails. I go for cremation. Because it simply expedite what is due to the carcass - to return to dust. It is practical and cheap, it won't hurt the soul and prevents the spread of diseases. I believe that's the reason why the Bible never say anything against it.

Preservation of the body is not part of Christian beliefs... so what happens to it after death is not of real importance to Christians. A body will turn to dust,eventually...cremation merely speeds things up.

Cremation is only a problem if one chooses to have it done in order to somehow subvert the will of God.
There's no problem with the basic practice.
Once we're through with these bodies, they turn to dust anyway.
God will give us new and better ones on judgment day.

There is nothing written in the Bible about that. But during the Middle Ages, it was believed that a soul could never enter heaven if the earthly body was burned.

I used to think so - but not anymore. I think God can put the pieces back together - when I get my new body. I'm at least believing this because I think I would like to be cremated.
