That all depends on if they NEED to drink every day or not. Alcoholism is an addiction. While you can drink 5 beers a day for a time, eventually it will become an addiction and they will be an alcoholic.
The only way to know for sure is if they stop for a week. If no withdrawals, no addiction. If they get sick or can't make it a week, they are definiely an alcoholic.
Either way, 5 a day is pretty bad and if they continue down that path, they are only in for suffering and an early death. That and causing pain to their loved ones.

I believe there is a difference between a heavy drinker and an alcoholic - and somebody who drinks five bottles of beer per day could be either of the above. To me, it's not how much a person drinks and when, it's more about how they react without it. So the question should be - does this person NEED five bottles of beer per day? Would they act out of character if they didn't get them? Would they maybe lie or cheat in order to have them? If so then yes i believe this person is an alcoholic. If not and they're 'normal' without the alcohol then i believe they are just a heavy drinker - one who should maybe cut down, i might add!

Yes of course! If that someone relies on beer to keep them going so much that they have to drink 5 bottles a day than they are an alcoholic. Look at it this way, they have to be drinking 5 bottles a day for a reason because other than that they could be drinking water, soda, juice, etc.(non-alcoholic). Maybe they should try AA (alcoholics anonymous).

He might be if it was 15 not 5.
Mind you, you haven't said what size the bottles are - nor what beer is in them. Beer may vary in strength from 3% alcohol to more than 10%. There's a lot of difference between 5 x half pints at 3% and 5 x
half litres at (say) 8%!

Yes deffinately. If you drink 5 bottles of beer everyday you are at the alcoholism stage (theres 5 stages, problem drinking, tolerance, dependence, and alcoholism.) Alcoholism is when the drinker is addicted to alcohol. the person craves alcohol and cannot control his or her drinking. the alcoholic drinks and gets drunk with increasing frequency. being addicted to alcohol means putting the drug before everything else, some alcoholics will substitute alcohol for food, which can lead to serious health problems such as malnutrition. each state leading to alcoholism may last a long time. however, by the time the alcoholic seeks help, he or she may look back and wonder how his or her drinking got so out of control.

I wouldn't call you an alchoholic just based on that. Like many other people have said, alchoholism is an addiction to alchohol and more of a psychological disorder that doesn't exactly depend on your alchoholic intake but more on the way you handle it and react to it.
However, bear in mind that it is pretty well documented that drinking more than about 2 beers (or glasses of wine, cocktails, etc.) a day is bad for you, so having 5 a day is slowly damaging your body, especially your liver, which processes alchohol. The good news is that most studies also show that the liver heals remarkably quickly, so the damage is not irrepairable, and cutting back or stopping drinking in middle age can lead to a perfectly healthy liver later in life.

I would suppose it depends on your body type and are you really drunk after 5 beers. Plus where do you drink the beer and are you a slpeepy drunk or, an angery drunk? If you have to ask the question, I guess you might be. I use to level out at 5 beers and became drunk at 12. Also, is this a long going addiction and do you feel out of control? I'm not a professional in this area, so look inward and decide for yourself.

First of all, I am not an expert, although I have dealt with different degrees of alcoholism in my own family. On one hand, I have been told that if you drink everyday on a regular basis, than you are an alcoholic no matter what or how much your drink. Now, on the other hand, I have come to determine that it does not matter how much you drink or how often you drink which determines if you are an alcoholic. The true test of alcoholism is whether or not your drinking interferes with the relationships with those that you have in your life. If a relationship is strained whether it be a personal or professional one by your drinking, then you suffer from alcoholism.

It has the person in it's clutches. they are about 40% in the door of alcolholism, once they go past say 75%, it is harder and harder to get out. right about now they are probably putting on a few pounds, doing less around the house. procrastination will set in. bills will pile up, paranoia will set in, serious health problems could begin. now may be a good time to get help. at AA when people testify it is an eye opener that most all of the problems that alcohics have is directly related to the alcohol use, and yet these problems evolve so slowly, the alcoholic really believes that they are just character flaws that are fairly common. i would try to find another vice to fill the void. and coming off the alcohol you will feel worse that when on it. it will take about five years to get your marbles back. it will take an additional five years to figure out what to do with the marbles.
