I flew for the first time on an E-190 out of JFK. Anyway I thought it was great--the food and leather seats were great. However, my dad who had flown about 16 times before said it was a rough takeoff. In a way it was, I guess--the plane took off angled to the right. I was wondering is it the plane or the pilot? The weather conditions were perfect. Also, I suppose it is possible that the aircraft was brand new and the pilot was merley getting aquanited with it.

The E190 is actually not a regional jet--it is a true mid-sized passenger jet with 100 seats, which is the same as some B737 models. Probably air traffic instructed the pilot to veer right after takeoff. Air space around NYC is quite congested with 3 major airports (JFK, EWR, LGA) plus White Plains, Newburgh, and Long Island airports.

The plane IS smaller than mainline planes, so is more effected by unseen things such as wind shear or turbulence.

I doubt the pilot was "just getting acquainted with it" as they have to be certified to fly it, generally through hours of simulator or actual air time. You can't take a 737 pilot and throw them into an E190.

I think it was unseen forces at work at JFK. (Were you flying jetBlue?)

I flew on an Embraer 190 out of JFK too (JetBlue to Boston). For me it was a very smooth experience.
