All dogs like to dig in a yard. When I took my to training classes I asked the trainer about this problem. I was told when ever I caught her doing this was tell her to "leave it" gradually she quit digging.
Squirting her with water from a squirt bottle will help also and telling her "no leave it" would help also.
Buy a sandbox is not going to help just encourage him/her.

Is there a wooded area near your house that you could let him dig in instead? I used to do that with my husky - we would take a walk to this area and then I would encourage him to "find it"...it didn't matter what - I would just say it really excited and point to a spot, and he'd start digging like crazy! I would bring a book to read while he played, and then we'd walk home. He ALWAYS considered this quality time and never minded me reading! lol...he was the best mouser I ever had!

Walk, run, skijour, exercise.....Siberian Husky. Digging means they are bored, they need more exercise.

i think so but you should teach him to do it there by like hiding some bones in it so that he knows it's ok to do it there. and at first praise him for doing it there and scold him if he dose it some where else. there smart dogs i think he would learn fast.
