I tried it only once on Bobby Burns Day and I have to say that is was not the best thing I have ever eaten, but it was ok. I wouldn't ever bother to make it or buy it for myself or my family other than if we were celebrating Bobby Burns Day. Mostly it just tastes spicy, depending on the recipe used. You can even make a vegetarian haggis.

I've had it both in a couple places in Scotland, as well as in the States, and I can tell you there is a huge difference. The haggis I've had in Scotland was great in my opinion, a loose sausage grind, very gamy with some nice spice to it. It blended well with the turnips and potatoes, whose mellow flavors and texture served as a nice counterbalance.
In contrast, most the haggis I've had in the states has been, well, bad. Over gamy, or not spaced just right, and for the most part it has tasted "old" or "stale" -- coming from a premade/frozen haggis. I have had haggis once or twice on the US side of the pond that was quite good. Larger Scottish celebrations or festivals that have a long running history often will have someone who knows their sausage-stuff and will make nice fresh haggis, and on those occasions it has been quite tasty.
Obviously if you don't like sausage, or anything with a fairly strong game-flavor (stronger than most lamb served) you probably won't like it.

I've had it once. I didn't dislike it, but I'm really not much of a fan of either organ meat or oatmeal, so it's not exactly something I go out of my way for.
