It depends on how heavy you are now, how tall you are, your age, and how active you are. Most likely you can lose weight on that many calories. Most of us need more than that to maintain weight. You need to have 3500 calories less than you use in order to lose a pound.

These sites will help you figure out how many calories you need, based upon your current weight, height and activity level. Best of luck with it.

Depending on your height and weight, 1400 might or might not be sufficient.
What is most important is exercise, though. You need to burn more calories than you are taking in.
Be sure to eat good, nutritious foods, whole grains, fruits, vegetables, dairy. Try to stay away from processed foods.
My comprimise is to eat whole fat dairy foods and a piece of chocolate every day (I love chocolate) and to do some cardiovascular workout 5 times a week, with strength training (freeweights) 3 times a week. I go overboard, but I love tennis, so I play that about 5-6 times a week when I can.
Try to find an activity you enjoy! You can burn calories gardening, strolling, whatever you enjoy works.
Oh and pick a day of the week and splurge that day. You will never lose weight if you constantly deny yourself the things you love.
Good luck!

It's more about the fat content of your food than calories. Try to eat no more than 40g fat per day - guidelines for women are around 1700 calories and 70g fat a day but it's quite easy to eat well and eat no more than 40g fat. But like the person before me said it's more about the exercise - combine diet and exercise and the weight will fall off. But dieting on it's own is only a quick fix. Try to do at least three half-hour exercise sessions a week, making sure that you feel out of breath. If you can, try weight training too - doesn't have to be in the gym, just do sit ups, tricep dips, bicep curls, squats, you can find loads on the internet and it builds up muscle and the more muscle you have and the more you exercise the more calories you burn off because it increases your metabolic rate.

Chances are you'll reject what I'm saying as rubbish, but I'll write it anyway.

A low calorie diet will only slow your metabolism by burning mainly muscle and but only a little fat. If you ever return to your original eating, you'll regain the lost muscle, but also a lot of fat. Basically you'll end up fatter than ever. Calorie restrictive diets make you fat long term.

You need to do exercise that works your muscles. Yoga, pilates, callisthenics, weight training (light weights). Too much running/cardio has the same bad effect on your muscles as a restricting your calories, but a little bit is good for your metabolism. Working your muscles in this way will fire up your metabolism, making you burn more calories generally and will cause you to lose weight.

In addition, the best way to lose weight is to:

1) Stop weighing yourself. The best way to lose weight is to lose muscle, but the best way to be thin is to lose fat.

2) Keep exercise short (no longer than 45 mins) and around twice a week.

2) Eat regularly, being hungry slows your metabolism (so does not drinking enough water).

4) Eat protein, it makes your body lose fat, hold onto muscle, and inhibits your appetite.

2) Research this! Look on the internet and you'll see I'm right.

Yes in principle, as you are eating below the 2000 calories a woman should normally eat a day. But many other factors will affect your weight loss like your own weight, exercise, life style etc., etc.
At any case I think you should only follow whichever diet a doctor recommends you after having done an examination and study of your metabolism, blood count, etc., etc.
There is no point in losing weight if you are also losing your health!

A normal adult should have between 1200 to 2000 calories a day. If you want to lose weight you should eat 1000 to 1200 calories a day. Make sure that you drink atleast 6 to 10 8 oz. glasses of water a day, that will help you lose weight too.

you will lose weight but you also might be miserably hungry. Also eating so few, your body might stop burning as many calories as it used to. Make sure you eat small meals frequently to keep your metabolism up. All in all, 1400 is not unhealthy. You could go a little higher, like 1600 and still lose weight though.

I think that you should have between 1000 - 1300 in order to lose weight, if you also do exercises that will help as well
