The other day I was sweeping up my neighbor's curb, which had so much trash and leaves that were turning into muck and foul smelling. Reason being my neighbor is disabled.

My neighbor across the street comes out and starts sneering at me, and looking at me strangely with her arms akimbo, like I was doing something bad, and she continued looking.

Why are some people so mean and uncaring?

People can't give what they don't have. If they can't give respect or love or understanding, it's likely that it wasn't taught to them.

I believe people are miserable to a point and want to see others be just as miserable in some way. you are a good person for helping out the disabled. And I would say next time she comes out sneering at you, yell at her how her lazy butt sons are the ones trashing the place across from their house. Or better yet, take all the trash you see them dump and put it on their side!

People who aim there anger at others are sad people, (they will say differently) but they are so unhappy in there own lives that they point fingers and are rude.
You however are a kind soul and God will bless you for your good deeds.
As far as the neighbors sons go, report them for littering, In my state it is a 2000.00 fine for something as small as a cigarette butt.
Maybe if they have to pay a fine they will quit doing it.
If you need proof, get a disposable camera and take pictures of them doing it or set your web cam if you got one in a window where it can catch them on it.
If the woman scoffs at you again just smile at her and say " oh I'm sorry, you must not have ever seen a person doing a good deed be for, well this is what it looks like" but make sure you smile that way she probably wont be able to respond.
God Bless you and keep up the good work.

Sounds like the lady across the street is just insecure or unhappy. You did a very nice thing, and that's what matters. Don't let the mean lady across the street get to you. If I were in your shoes, I would smile at the mean lady, and ask how she is today. Being really nice to someone will usually diffuse their mean attitude.

As far as why she's so mean? Who knows. Maybe her cat just died, maybe she's had a hard life, etc. Point is, you're nice, and most other people are nice too. Try not to focus on the mean people, but on the nice people like you.

Some people are so bored that they try to take out their misery on other people. Take comfort in the fact that she is a MORON and you are doing a good thing by helping out a neighbor. Next time she stares you can always say something like 'can I help you?'

Some people are so insecure that they have to tear others down to make themselves feel better.

Just do what you know to be right, and be thankful you're not that miserable!

People like that just don't like themselves. Why do you even care what they think. Atleast you know you have a good heart and that is all that matters. Good on you.
