It could be either or both. Fortunately, both diabetes and thyroid disorders are easily diagnosed by simple and inexpensive blood tests. For diabetes a fasting gluocse will usually provide the diganosis, although a gluocse tolerance test is sometimes required. For thyroid disorders thyrotropin (also known as thyroid stimulating hormone or TSH) is definitive - and older tests such as T3 T4 T7 are not helpful - expect in unusual cases.

With the onset of diabetes, you experience frequent urination often accompanied by an overpowering, unquenchable thirst. You also deal with rapid weight loss or weight gain, coupled by feelings of lathargy and sleepiness.

Thyroid issues present weight gain and feelings of tiredness.

What you should do is NOT WAIT to self-diagnose; all of your questions can be answered by going to a physician, and have them do a blood work up on you. They will be able to tell (immediately for the diabetes) if your sugar is above level (anything over 120), and they can do that with a finger prick and a at home blood glucose meter.

The thyroid work will have to be sent away to a lab that should take about 24-72 hours.

Good Health Wishes To You!!!

I would start by making an appointment with your doctor. A simple blood test can determine either. My guess would be the anxiety you are experiencing, is more than likely producing the feeling of electricity running through the legs and arms, and your fast heart rate.

It might be diabetes, but only your doc can tell for sure. See your doc, and have your blood glucose tested.
