You will regret renting a car in thailand. To get around - there are plenty of taxis everywhere. They all know the main tourist temples - if you get your hotel to write the places down in Thai - and hand it to the taxi driver - you will be sure he understands.

Reasons NOT to rent:
1. driving in thailand requires you can read thai street signs (some are in english but not all)
2. They drive on the left side of the road (like UK)
3. Traffic is terrible - if you are lost your frustration will mount - taxi drivers know short cuts because they hate waiting in traffic too.
4. Thai drivers are crazy
5. Motorcycles weave in and out of traffic and you may not be used to seeing them
6. The cost of taxi's is very cheap - more cost effective - and taxis are everywhere. And you can also find tuk tuks which are cheaper (some peopel think they are dangerous!). You can also get a hotel car and driver for use all day
7. If you want a tour that shows you all the temples - I would actually recommend that you go there - find a tour operator (almost every hotel has one in the lobby) and ask for a half or full day private temple tour. When you meet the tour guide at your hotel - tell them which temples you want to see - they will gladly take you around and tell you abotu these temples. not too expensive and great use of your time. *** Note - if you are a woman they will give you a guy tour guide, but if you are a guy - a female tour guide - funny***

Have fun!

If this is a fairly short trip DO NOT DO IT. Taxis are SO cheap in Bangkok, parking is terrible, traffic is terrible and dangerous for the inexperienced. I drive all over Thailand, have lived here full time for five years, and I won't attempt driving in BKK at all! Not past the airport, unless I'm going north. In Pattaya, you just don't need a car, but at least it is simpler to drive there. International or US Driver's License and Passport is all you need. But with song taew, taxi and everything so close, you probably don't need a far. Air Asia is more practical to fly around than driving and wasting your trip. Additional: a short visit to the emergency room of any hospital OUGHT to convince you about driving a motorbike here unless you've had experience IN THAILAND or SE Asia; it is also cheap to hire a car and driver for any trips that you want to make.

Yes, you can rent one. Here's the link to Hertz Bangkok. For one week it is approx. USD 410 or 15,600 THB per week for a subcompact car including taxes, etc.

The traffic in Bangkok is worse lately. Parking is hard to find. You should reconsider your choices.

For that amount of money you could hire a tour guide at 1,000 baht per day and pay for their lunch and the transportation (Taxi, subway, Skytrain) and still have money left over. Some of the temples you can walk from one to the other.

It really does not make that much sense.

Hi, you can find car rental companies at the arrival hall in the airport. You should be able to find what you want.

However as advised by others, it is not easy to drive around, heavy traffic and also the lane direction changes during peak hours. Best is to use the Skytrains and MRTs for convenience. You can get a walking map and find your way around the temple that you want to go to. Have fun.
