You're fine. Don't let them get to you. It's what they want.

It's not that you are an idiot for believing in a deity. That's your choice and you are free to believe whatever you wish.

I, personally, would never call anyone an idiot for their belief in god. However, I would (and have) call someone an idiot if you post something ignorant that has no bearing in your religion.

Example:

If you said you believed in god and that he is the great provider and that he has saved you from eternal damnation but then you said something like he also is going to send all the perverts, gays, lesbians and jews to hell.

I would call you an idiot (and a moron etc). You made a statement that is not only false but you're judging all of those people, which is something a true Christian does not do.

But, believing in god doesn't warrant being called an idiot.

Because obviously if you weren't born into a Christian household and if you didn't grow up believing what your parents believed, you're mentally challenged. LOL.

I agree with you. Not sure why people get so 'superior' because they were born into an American, Christian household - as though they had any choice in the matter. 'You' would still be an important person if you were born in China, Indonesia, or Jordan and were raised Budhist, Hindu, or Muslim.

The answer is that people are very insecure, especially religious conservatives (see the multitude of finger-pointing in the past 10 years).

Thank you for not generalizing (at least at the beginning).

I don't think you are an idiot. We live in a free country where people can believe or not believe whatever they want to. You are completely within your rights to believe in god. Some people just take their atheism VERY seriously, and try to convert you. Don't listen to their hostility. We are not all like this.

The only time I would ever call you an idiot or less intelligent is if you DID state that not believing in god was stupid. I only attack people on here who attack me first. If they insult my beliefs, or degrade me in anyways, I will call them out on it.

Continue believing. I'll continue to not.

There are haters on both sides I'm afraid. Some (not all) Christians are extremely hateful in this forum too. I've even gotten some hate mail and I personally can be friends with someone no matter what their religion. Don't let the haters get to you hon! Follow after truth and the path that suits you. No one can dictate that for you! :)

Neither of us should call the other stupid for our beliefs. My problem is religious people seem to have a need to try to convince everyone that there is a so-called god.The ones who do this the most aren't the most intelligent people I've ever met.
I try to keep my beliefs as far as religion to myself unless I'm specifically asked about it.Religious people should do the same.Everyone would be happier.

I think that when someone is turned off of God and organized religion, they don't think that anyone should believe it. I believe in God, but I'm not a big church fan, simply becaus eI can't find the right one. That doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with me. I'm incredibly religious and spiritual and I like my life that way. And I'm okay if they want their lives to be the way that they are. But that's not my life and if I don't go around preching to you I don't what you to tell me that what I'm doing is wrong.

I don't think you have to be an idiot to believe in a god or gods, but I do think that the more people learn, and the more they reflect on what they've learned, the less likely they are to be religious. There's a definite inverse correlation between education and religiosity.

I don't think you're less intelligent. I just often think that the whole concept of religion is too good to be true, it seems like you're believing what you want to - I mean, would anyone rather believe theres no purpose to life, no afterlife, no soul? Of course they wouldn't! Atheists see themselves as more concerned with the truth than what's good, I suppose.

Don't take offense when the unbeliever calls you stupid. Jesus said He took the foolish things of the world to confound the wise and the intellectual. He gave them a spirit of stupor and blinded their eyes because of unbelief. So when you are hated and are called all manner of degrading things, count it all joy, because you are doing something, that you yourself cannot understand. Love, be bless
