Did it hurt when people were beheaded back in the day or was it instant death. I have heard that peoples faces would still move for a few seconds after it rolled off. Would the brain still process pain after it is removed from the body?

Decapitation only hurts for a fraction of a second. Not that I've experienced it, but whenever your brain is disconnected from your spinal column you won't experience pain. The facial movements are normal for dead people It's called dephysiculation, and it also occurs in the muscles.

What a great question!!! I reckon there would be an instant of pain and then not a lot else - many beheadings were done from behind so the spinal cord would be severed first interupting the nervous system and the way pain is registered. The face would contort for a while through voluntary muscle contractions.
Of course we will never know unless we can get a clairvoyant or one of those chanellers onto the job - not that I would believe what they say anyway !!!

never been decapitated so i cant say
movement still occurs for a few seconds post decapitation because the nerve stimulus is still present as the body does not initially recognize the nerve path to the brain has been severed
that is where the expression- running like a chicken without a head comes from
if you have ever been to a chicken market that killed the chicken fresh you would see the chicken momentarilly "running"
i remember seeing thay as a child _wild

I'm going to say it depends on what weapon is used. I saw the video of Daniel Pearl being decapitated and the sounds he was making as it was happening sounded pretty painful. It wasn't like his head was chopped off in an instant. It took at least 30 seconds. So he had to have felt pain. Don't ask what made me want to see the video. I guess curiosity got the best of me. I wish I hadn't seen it though. I can still remember what his moans sounded like :(

I have read stuff like that from what I remember if you had the money you would pay for an experienced executuioner with I guess a sharp axe. If you were poor you got the guy with the dull blade, so just like today if you were poor you got screwed.

I read about a guy that was decapitated and still blinked for 20 seconds.

Ew. Hmmm. If they did have a pain, then it definately wouln't be a pain in the neck. Most likely a horrible headache, instead.

Seriously, i do not think so.

i would say yes... but yet again no one has ever survived to tell us if it does or not!

the movement in the face is kinda like a chicken running around with its head cut off... its random contractions of muscles

Get the book "Stiff" it's full of that stuff, yet in a slightly humorous way so it's not gruesome really.
