Because dogs have to feed more than one pup at a time--unlike humans.
I think a dog with 8 pups would look at a human and say "glad I'm not a human or I would never be done!"

dogs have 8 nipples most of the time only the bottom four get milk but when the dog has more puppies the other will get milk also to provide milk for all puppies but however the bottom four will have most of the milk

ALL female dogs, cats, hamsters, rats, etc. have more then one nipple. How are they going to feed 6 to 8 babies. My border collie has 8 nipples. So that is not uncommon.

they have sets of nipples because of all the pups they have at once, then they all can have stuff to drink

they have way more babies then us!! could you imagine feeding a whole litter of babies on two!!! the dog would probably go nuts!!!!:)
