The other day a police officer stopped me on foot to ask me for Identification it was late at night. I pretended to pull out my wallet and just ran instead. He was so slow I looked back and never saw him again. It was like he didn't even try and chase me. I thought cops were supposed to be fast. Anyone else get away from cops and never hear about it since?

People, do you really think I ran from cops? I wouldn't incriminate myself through a yahoo web site.

Folks flee from police and get clean away every day. It's no major accomplishment - usually just good judgement on the cop's part not to chase some idiot who'll probably get himself or someone else hurt in the chase. It's really amazing that the cops, who are encumbered with heavy equipment, unfathomable rules of engagement, and an almost totally hostile operating environment, ever catch anyone at all - especially young, healthy, and nimble kids who know the terrain. My personal favorite tactic is to arrest the friends of the guy who runs and make sure I load them up with charges so that they'll kick the crap out of the runner later.

First, why was it necessary for you to flee? Guilty conscience?

Second, you're damn lucky you didn't have a trigger happy cop or your next of kin would be boo hooing on here about suing the cop.

He also may have figured it wasn't worth it to chase you.

I'm a retired cop. I can still remember an acquaintance of mine who ran from me when I was on duty. He was setting off illegal fireworks. I knew him, he knew me and he ran. I didn't chase him because if I really wanted to arrest him, all I had to do was go to the magistrate, complete an affidavit for an arrest warrant, and go get him later.

In your case, you're lucky.

I don't know why anyone would run, unless they are wanted or guilty of something. Not all cops are in the best of shape, but they are still out there doing their duties. But if your ever in trouble, make sure that the cop that comes to assis you is not the one you ran from...........
