First of all you look very pretty with the same hair color you have. Brunette is definitely my favorite hair color (exotic).
But, since you want to change lets go for different scenarios and see which one you like.
Of course there's always blond, but I wouldn't recommend it for now since it's winter. Maybe you can do that for spring and summer.
Usually for Fall and Winter people dye their hair to darker and richer colors, which you already have.
You can try a rich red base chocolate brown, then get multicolor high lights in red, mahogany, burgundy, auburn, copper, and even a few strands of black. I have seen this hair due on a friend of mine that is very trendy (she lives in Hollywood, LA) and she looks pretty damn hot.

PS: I just saw your additional notes and I think Beyonce, J-Lo, etc. all have the same hair color, just some bright highlights on top of brown hair. There's nothing risky or daring about that hair color, it's a classic and very common.

Have you considered a mahogany red with some highlights/lowlights? Not sure what to recommend in the way of a cut, I have hair about that length and it doesn't seem like there's much to be done with it while retaining length.
