Protestants are able to get divorced according to their beliefs, but Catholics aren't. Christians are led to be intolerant. We believe in a defenite right and wrong. We believe in discernment. We have all these beliefs that cannot be changed and people that aren't Christians don't respect us because we're intolerant. I'm able to offend people if I'm sure of what I believe in and I don't respect people who don't stand up for their beliefs. For example, I'm intolerant of gays and lesbians and I disrespect their beliefs, but I don't hate them. People don't respect that the Bible has shaped my views on political subjects, not society. Any comments?

I think we've all pondered that. Just remember to share love too !! Sometimes we try to share our Christian beliefs the wrong way. Christians are people. People make mistakes. Thank you and God Bless.

I wasn't led to be intolerant by the modern definition. I don't tolerate sin, but I do tolerate sinners, since I, like every human, am one.
The bible definitely influences my understanding of world events.
The bible does say to give "no offense, either to jews or gentiles".
So I dont intentionally try to offend people. Some get offended by Christ tho.
EDIT: Aubry - there's a whole lot MORE to the word of God than the ten commandents. Try reading it sometime.

um, it looks like you are not being open minded.
Unless you are using this as a rhetorical device, such as, you are not Christian, and you are saying this to try and convert a christian to be more open minded.
Oh I get it, this is fun. Let me try!
Hi, I am in charge of a very complicated organism in the universe called the human body. I instantly know when I have to maintain my bodily functions and I have the power to change myself in a number of ways. My car costs me 20,000 dollars and it won't last longer than 20 years, but my body will last about 80-100 years if I'm lucky, and I actually KNOW that. But hey,I heard on a news program that some countries have it rough, so I guess there is evil in the world so there must not be a God.
Any comments?

I agree 100% with you. Do not let anyone steer you away from the Lord. You do not have to tolerate the wrong doings against God, Yes, spread the word, it is your job, if they do not listen that is not your fault. Jesus told us to spread his news, the Holy Spirit will put the words into our mouths. After all remember Light does not mix with darkness. Just let out the word everyone has their own free will to listen or not. Sadly many will not listen. God Bless you and Guide you always

Just referring to your first sentence about divorce. Here's my question - if Protestants and Catholics are both Christians and if they have very different rules about divorce then they both can't be right, can they?
So, simply saying "be a Christian" isn't a definite direction because, then, you have to pick from the dozens and dozens of variates of Christians.
It's all very confusing to me.

Sure, I think that it's fine for someone to base their beliefs off the bible if they choose to. However, they have to recognize that in the political system of our government we can't create laws according to someones religious beliefs. We can't outlaw gay sex because your bible says it is a sin. In order to have meaningful stances in our political systems you have to think what is right for all concerned without religion being the primary influence.

I respect that you have your own beliefs. What I don't respect is your INTOLERANCE for others.
You may not "hate" them, but your words contradict that notion. You should respect people regardless of what they belief or don't believe, and you don't respect them, no matter what you say otherwise.
You are contradicting yourself with every word of this question.

Why express your beliefs to those who don't care. If someone isn't bothering you they don't card whether you disrepect their beliefs or not. What do you do go up to them and say you flaming fag you are going to hell? An opinion is like an a-- hole
everybody has one. If you can't be nice keep your opinion to yourself.

well on the subject of gays I would like to point out that the reference to sexual preference is not given much importance by god since he obviously didn't mention it in the 10 commandments and do not covet thy neighbors goods might suggest "to mind your own buisness"
jesus seems pretty unconcerned as well and instructs the pharasis not to worry about who is married to whom in the bible
how sad that you subscribe only to those passages which support a clearly unimportant identity where the spirit is clearly the more crucial factor
perhaps your relationships with people are so incredibly positive that you think it only you who can love
and your welcome to tell us about your successful relationship with women or men depending on your gender
then perhaps you could tell us why sex is bad if your partner is tthe same sex
what problem does that create for god?\
god created them

Christians also believe that judgement rests with the one true God, and certainly NOT with man.
