I keep hearing about a Holly war against Satin, and various such things. I decided to see for myself, so I bought a beautiful satin shirt down at Chez Bruce, and went for a walk in the park. I met a lot of unusually friendly guys along the way. When I got to the botanical gardens I went over to the holly exhibit. I usually stay away from the holly because that's where the feral hogs like to hide and they can be real nasty. They love to use alternative interrogation methods which are very painful. Anyhow, I went into the holly patch, and almost immediately my new shirt was snagged by holly leaves. Those things can be really sharp. As I feared, about half way across the holly patch I was set upon by enraged hogs. They were in an evil mood, something to do with an election scheme gone haywire. I ran for it, and by the time I got out of there I had proof of the holly war against satin. My new shirt was in tatters. Anybody else have a similar experience?

No, no, no. Holly is in a war of world domination with Ivy,
Satin is just an innocent bystander, being played by both sides in this horrible conflict. I'll bet that you didn't notice that there was an ivy bush nearby when your shirt got destroyed, chuckling in a nefarious manner.
Take heart, and don't be taken in by the propaganda. Holly is not the enemy. Ivy is.
Join us in the fight againt holly defamation! We have to stay underground, it's not safe to be overt...but you'll know us by our musical code....
"The holly and the ivy,
When they are both full grown
Of all the trees that are in the wood
THE HOLLY WEARS THE CROWN"

I don't know. I always thought satin was pretty harmless. It's a beautiful fabric, but really hard to work with (as a seamstress). I would definitely war against fabric fraying. And Holly - well, holly seems to have those sharp edges on the leaves so it could easily pull the threads of satin.

Slightly amused. I have the same issue with grease stains on my satin shirt from dripping some Mary Margarine on it. Stay away from any feral hog that eats shoots and leaves.

I'm glad you asked that question. Because Christmas is the one time of year when Jesus and Satan (wearing his usual satins) are on the same wavelength. For different reasons, of course, both want you to spend lots of money and build up credit-card debt. Jesus wants to support the economy and give jobs to the needy; Satan wants you to endebt yourself (the way the Bush clique has endebted all of America to the Chinese) in a way that the Bush bankruptcy law amendments prevent you from ever recovering from.
So there you are: holly is as holly does. Support your local mall.

I once saw a portrait of Elvis painted on satin. I think the "dogs playing cards" was on velvet.

I like satin...it's nice and smooth.
Holly is also a good thing, especially around the holidays.

You have misspelt it. It's STATIN. And it's the greatest blessing of science -- hypolipidemic agents that keep Satan at bay.
