a weight loss plateau can last anywhere from six months to a year. Depends on how much you have already lost. The body has to adjust to the new weight before it will allow you to safely lose any more weight. Keep up the exercise and the calorie count and be patient. If you try to step up the rate of loss, the body will conserve fat and burn muscle and that is not healthy.

I don't think pills are the answer. Those might help short term but will not help you out long term and can also mess up your metabolism.

Running is a great way to tone your body. Keep it up!

And I would suggest weight training. You don't have to lift very much weight but it is a very good way to lose weight and keep the weight off. While cardio is a way to burn calories while excercising, weight training burns calories even after you are done. Your muscles will be working-causing your body to burn calories even while you sleep. You don't have to lift heavy weights but it's a good way to tone and burn. I noticed a difference when I started doing more weights.

Keep on keepin' on! Plateaus are temporary. Try breaking up your routine. Instead of running a mile, try hiking uphill, water aerobics, kickboxing. Your body has become adjusted to your every day routines.. sometimes changing those routines & pushing your body a little harder will help. Change your eating habits a little as well.

Try interval training.
Alternate high-intensity bouts of sprinting with slow short cool downs to get your heart pumping to the max and then going back down, etc.
It burns more calories overall, and increases muscle mass FAST.
(Interval training has been used for the purpose of overcoming plateaus in general.)
