The risk of sexual transmission is very low; approx. 1-3%. If your sexual practices include sticking pins into each other, or any other means of being exposed to each other's blood, then the risk exists. Of the many couples that have come into our support group over the years, one partner has the virus, and the other one doesn't. None of the couples use protection. The risk is extremely low. However, the more people you sleep with, the chances increase, so if you are not committed to one person, use common sense and protection.
Stephanie and MyThought, you guys are educated in this topic. It scares me how much misinformation is out there. That's why people are afraid to talk about or get help for this disease- too much negative stigma.

Probably not, unless your sexual practices are so energetic that there is blood to blood contact.
Studies with monogomous partners found no disease transmission between partners. There is some evidence that people with multiple partners are more at risk, but the possibility exists that the disease was transferred in a non-sexual manner, such as using someone's toothbrush or razor the morning after.

Hepatitis B. Note that Hepatitis A and Hepatitis E are transmitted via the fæcal-oral route, not sexually; Hepatitis C is rarely sexually transmittable,[3]and the route of transmission of Hepatitis D is uncertain, but may include sexual transmission
Is Hepatitis C Transmitted Sexually?
It is recommended that all patients having sex with multiple partners use a condom or spermicide. Patients in a single partner relationship need to use a barrier method only if they have genital sores, active bleeding, or are anxious and concerned about transmission. However, it is strongly recommended that men or women with hepatitis C who have sores in the genital area should avoid sexual contact.
For patients with hepatitis C, testing of spouses, babies and significant others is recommended by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). Please discuss these issues with your doctor.

HCV corpuscles, found in semen and vaginal fluid are NOT transmittable.
HCV can only be transmitted if there is a blood to blood occurance.
HCV is not a true STD because of this.
I have never infected anyone prior to my knowing of my HCV status and I have never infected anyone after knowing of my HCV status.
HCV is NOT typically spread via sexual intercourse UNLESS
You have enough friction to cause sores on both you and the infected (blood to blood)
You engage in sharing drug utensils, ie, dollar bills (the highest chance of infected blood already on them), straws, needles (this group is thought of as also having more than one sexual partner at any given time)
You have a MUCH HIGHER chance of infection if you:
share a toothbrush with someone who has HCV
share a razor or anything else that may have hcv infected blood on it that enters into your bloodstream via open sore.
I have had sex prior to my knowledge of hcv status even during the monthly thing and he never acquired HCV.
In order to be safe however, you should always wear protection as simply as to respect your body.

Not normally, but if the sex causes bleeding, or in anyway involves blood swapping then yes.
