i am confused...if they werent together why did she have his class ring? and since she had that ring why would you say ok to him gettin it back...and yes i would say it is your fault unfortunately...here's why...
you told him to stop hitting on you
he says fine i will get my ring back
you start flirting with him after the fact
you didnt think of your friend
to go after a guy that is with your friend and even after they "break-up" or whatever is wrong.....drop the guy, give her time and apologize....friends are there through thick and thin...b/f's or g/f's come and go

I dunno your entire challenge so i will purely guess some state of affairs: state of affairs one million: have you ever watched the action picture "in simple terms buddies". properly, you may discover the answer there. the guy could no longer desire to be on your "purely a pal" circle anymore and take the courting right into a some distance better point... state of affairs 2: particularly situations friendship is born to satify a rapidly desire. some grow to be buddies because of the fact they desire to do some thing at the same time. some grow to be buddies because of the fact their time table facilitates them to be at the same time incredibly some the time. and others grow to be buddies for the secure practices that the different one factors. in keeping with this, if the desires are actually not anymore happy then the friendship can fall apart. is it achievable that it incredibly is occurring to you?

If your friendship is going to be ruined by a guy, then it is not a true friendship. Forget the guy, he's just trying to cause trouble. "Boyfriends come and go, but TRUE friendships last forever."
