I love both sauteed mushrooms and black pepper! I've been searching Google for you - came up with this recipe that I'm sure you'll be able to tweak to your liking, or to your memory of the old neighbor's version...

"Sauteed Mushrooms"

1 lb. medium-size mushrooms
2 tbsp. butter
1 tbsp. oil
Pepper; freshly ground
Chopped parsley

Gently rinse mushrooms and pat dry; slice.
In large skillet, melt butter and oil over medium heat; stir in sliced mushrooms. Cook, stirring constantly, until mushrooms begin to release their juices, about 3-4 minutes. Continue stirring until mushrooms are tender, about 2 minutes. Grind pepper over mixture; add parsley. Serve with grilled steaks.
