For example, when I go to work, is it ok to leave the puppy in the kennel box until I get home?

Sorry I should have said I only work 4 hours a day, then I do the rest of my work at home.

No, I'm not planning on being gone and leaving the dog alone all the time...for the person who said that....I only asked because I could find no other arrangements for today. The puppy is my fiance's and he had his mom usually keeps the puppy while he is at work but she couldn't today so I was the only other option but I was worried to leave it in the box for 4 hours.

3 hours should be the max for a puppy of that age. If you can't make arrangements for someone to come in and let it out, I suggest baby-gating in a room with a vinyl floor with a radio, some toys, food/water, and some puppy pads or a litter box.

My 6 month old yorkie/chihuahua mix is litterbox trained so she can take care of herself and we don't have to go out on bad weather days.

You didn't say how long you were at work - I assume 8 hours?

No -too long for an 8 week old pup. If he starts to soil his crate (which you will be forcing him to do because he can't hold it) then you will have a hard time retraining him.

8 weeks old - only about 2 hours at first.. You'll have to find a good neighbor, friend or dog walking service to help you until he is older. In a month or two - you might can stretch that to 4 hours if you could come home for lunch.

For every one month old the dog is, one hour between each potty break. With your puppy only being 1 1/2 months old, about 1 1/2 hours.

As LITTLE AS POSSIBLE!! I just rescued a boxer that was kept in a kennel by the previous owner, poor thing is soo skinny and timid.. it was disgusting and would never have her in one again!!!... 4 hrs MAX!! As puppys, generaly they have go to the bathroom as many weeks they are in an hr... a 3 week old pup has to go 3 times in an hr... until theyre about 9 months, they they can hold it a little longer. an adult... over 1 yr can hold it about 4 hrs... but who likes holding their pee for 4 hrs...

No. you will have to make arrangements to have the pup let out during your lunch break until he is atleast 4-5 months old. They can have better bladder control around that age.

FOUR hours is the max any dog should have to stay in a kennel on a regular basis!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Why get a dog if it is going to be spending most of its time alone????

I hate that one hour for each month of age rule......at 12 months can you leave the dog for 12 hours??? How about at 24 months?
Even 9 months???????? Where do you draw the line???

a good rule of thumb is...
1 hour for their age, so 1 month 1 hour, 2months 2 hours etc...
you should train them first, so they don't think they are in trouble, put a bed in there with their favorite toy....
enjoy
