Your brain stops working and you lose consciousness. You have no awareness of anything any more. If you made the decision to become an organ donor, the doctors harvest your organs to help other people have another chance at life.
Your family and friends mourn your death (and take care of your funeral arrangements unless you willed your body to science or for Plastination). You survive only in their memories and through the good and bad deeds you did before dying.
There is no afterlife. There doesn't need to be.

According to the Bible, believing Christians' souls go to heaven where they are immediately brought into the presence of God. (2 Cor 5:6-8). The non-Christian goes to a place of conscious punishment (Matt 5:22; 11:23; 23:33; Psalm 9:17) that is called Hades or Hell, then in the end times, hell is cast into the lake of fire, the place of final eternal torment (Rev 20:10)

I don't think anything really happens. I think that we are biological creatures just like everything else on the planet, and when we die we are gone.

I think our body decomposes to feed other life, our energy dissipates into the surroundings, and we become a part of everything. In other words, nothing but the natural processes of existance.

The spirits of both the righteous and the wicked return to God. Their bodies return to dust.
"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7.
Answer: The body turns to dust again, and the spirit goes back to God, who gave it. The spirit of every person who dies--whether righteous or wicked--returns to God at death.
There is nothing mysterious about the spirit that returns to God at death. It is the breath of life.
"The body without the spirit ["breath," see margin] is dead." James 2:26. "The spirit of God ["the breath which God gave him," see margin] is in my nostrils." Job 27:3.
Answer: The spirit that returns to God at death is the breath of life. Nowhere in all of God's book does the "spirit" have any life, wisdom, or feeling after a person dies. It is the "breath of life" and nothing more.
"All that are in the graves shall hear his voice, And shall come forth." John 5:28, 29. "David ... is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day." "For David is not ascended into the heavens." Acts 2:29, 34. "If I wait, the grave is mine house." Job 17:13.
Answer: No, people do not go either to heaven or hell at death. They go to their graves to await the resurrection day.

you get in-bombed, they put you in a pretty box, put you in a room where all your friends can pay their respects and your enemy's can poke you to see if you are really dead, they close the lid and lower you in to a hole 6 feet deep and throw dirt on you, they say a few parting words then you go to heaven or hell.

i have a theory. i think that when you die, the energy (or soul) is released from your body and absorbed by everything around you. everything is connected.
