I think that when you wake up crying, your subconscious is going through something in your life that might have made you sad, or you had a bad dream; then not remembered it upon waking.

I'm not aware of an old saying, and I do not want to be repetitive, so I offer some other advice... do you have trouble sleeping in general? Re-occuring memories of past traumas? do you wake up sweating? Perhaps if these are yes, you may meet some criterion for PTSD (Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder). This may have nothing to do with it, I don't claim to be an expert in sleep disturbances... however I've studied and done research on PTSD. Just a thought.
Good luck!!

No Saying that I am aware of.
If you wake up crying and you can recall having a nightmare or bad dream, that is one explanation.
Should you wake up crying many times without a clear explanation, then perhaps your subconscious is bothering. Perhaps you are suppressing some feelings that make you cry.
If this continues, see your Physician.
Good Luck.....Billy
