Light grey works well - it doesn't show small scuffs and it still looks nice. If you use a semi gloss "Scrubbable" (For children's rooms) you can easily wipe down the walls with a damp rag

Depending on your goal of a darker/lighter feel. I would use an exterior paint that withstands the elements. If you want you might like to paint a square 2x3 in chalk board paint with a trim border- message board.
What about color 2/3 and a lighter shade of the top in the 1/3.

You may want to paint it with a "semi gloss", off white color, so it would not show dirst very easily and also you can dust it or use a damp cloth to keep the walls clean.

White. White reflects light best and therefore makes it easier to see. It's the most practical.

white would be most normal, but maybe something darker to hide possible scuffs and scratches that may occur. Light to dark brown maybe
