i don't want the person i'm with to sense that i drank a little bit before he came... how can i mask the scent of the alcohol on my breath?

I heard that vodka is one of the most difficult alcohols to detect on the human breath, especially when drunken straight. If you want to become "loose" for the guy that is coming over...then definitely go with the vodka....

Masking any other alcohols is darn near impossible, as others have mentioned, it does tend to soak into your skin and hair. Brushing your teeth for 5 minutes and using Listerine for a couple more definitely helps.

But then again...why are you with someone who cares if you had a bit to drink before they came over? People should like you for who you are...not because you do or do not drink. Maybe you should evaluate what you want in a person and if that particular individual has what you want before trying to "lie" (ie/masking) the scent of alcohol on your breath. Would he really get that mad if he found out????

Gum doesn't work either. To a non-drinker or someone who hasn't been drinking the smell of alcohol can't be masked. You'd be surprised how strong it is and how long it stays with you.

You cannot smell alcohol "seeping out of your pores". You smell it on your breath, and no it doesn't "come up" from your stomach either unless you burp. Just eat peanut butter I have known alcoholics who have done this.

It will stay with you no matter how much gum you chew. I would say either don't drink before your date comes or try brushing your teeth, gargling & eat some peanutbutter.

Peanutbutter used to work when I was younger and didn't want my mother to know I had been expirementing with booze...

Gum is alright and has always worked for me. The smell only stays for about 30 mins anyway.

Nothing really works to mask this smell.I grew up with alcoholics and they all smell the same.To this day i can smell an alcoholic just by them walking by me.Over time, alcohol seeps into your whole body, skin, hair, insides and you will always smell the same, even with perfume you'll have an underlining smell of alcohol.Stop drinking.

Afraid not. Alcohol comes through the pores. Peppermint only alerts somebody to look further. Many eat peppermint before going to church. When they go to communion in front of you you can smell the stale liquor on their clothes and I' m being quite serious, not smart or judgemental one way or the other.

if tomato juice can get the skunk smell off a dog, it can remove alcohol breath. Or something oniony or garlicky.

Eat some raw onions and then chew gum.
