G'day Sammywindebut,
Thank you for your question.
The capital city of Australia is Canberra. It was selected as a site for the capital city in 1908 and building started in 1913. The city now has a population of 325,000. It is located within the Australian Capital Territory which is a self-governing territory of Australia.
By the way, it is a great place to live.
I have attached sources for your reference.
Regards

Canberra is the capital city of Australia and with a population of just over 325,000 people, is Australia's largest inland city. The city is located at the northern end of the Australian Capital Territory, 300 kilometres (190 mi) southwest of Sydney, and 650 kilometres (400 mi) north-east of Melbourne.

Canberra, although many people use say the major cities on the coasts, IE Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane. This is because Canberra is actually smaller than these other cities.

The capital of Australia is CANBERRA; although George Bush and our PM would like to think of it as Washington DC.
