I want to buy Win XP for a computer which will eventually be scrapped for parts or upgraded. I know you can only install one copy of XP on one computer at a time due to licensing. What I want to know is, when I go to build a new computer (with new master HDD) is it possible to "cancel" the install of XP on the old HDD and then install it on a new computer? Does Microsoft allow this? Do I have to go through some formal online process of having the original install revoked? What if the original HDD seizes up and im forced to re-install on a new HDD?

You can do this, you might have to contact Microsoft...just make sure to tell them you are upgrading your computer. The licensing should work fine as long as you format your other hard drive.
