I can honestly say i loved someone.. and no it's not something you can throw around. Usually the people that have known love won't throw it around, the man i'm with now i want to tell him because i feel that i love him but i think it's too soon. My friends think that i'm crazy thinking it's too soon since i've been with him 5 months, 5 months to me seems way too soon.
I think the media has hurt a lot of what that word is supposed to mean, i mean how many teen dramas do you see that someone is dating for 3 days and they love each other... i don't think kids these days are growing up knowing the difference, they think caring is loving.
BTW if you're wondering about my being in love but being with someone new, the man that i loved passed away and yes it still hurts.

I have been infatuated, i have lusted, i have hated, i have regretted but most of all i feel as of right now i love... I think you have to feel every type of emotion before you can actually say you love someone... or are in love with someone. Like there is no up without a down and there is no in without an out. So many people jump into relationships and think oh I'm in love.. i think it's because they haven't had their heart broken or they haven't been infatuated with someone or anything else... i think like with all things in life love takes time...

You are right about some of it. True love does take time. To honestly, fully love someone you have to really know them and be friends with them. True love is when that man holds your hair back while you get sick, the man who is standing by your side as you give birth to your baby, someone who rubs your back when you have had a bad day, etc. It is not lust or infatuation. It is true friendship and a bound that noone else can break. Thats love.

I can honestly tell you that I have loved someone.. Yes it is true many people tend to think they are in love when they aren't, but the truth is there is no one real meaning for love, (everyone has there own meaning)so sometimes you may think you are in love, and it is not till sometime down the road that you see it was not love. On the other hand there are many different types of love, the love of a friend, the love of a siste/brother, the love of a mother, and the love for your partner so maybe when they told you they loved you they meant it just not the way you thought they meant it.
I hope I didn't confuse you and I hope this helps.

I know exactly what you mean. A friend of mine has a new girlfriend every few months and he's "been in love with all of them". It's amazing how little that word means these days. When I'm in a relationship I never say it unless I actually feel it, and it still takes a few months to be sure that's what I feel. I can honestly say that I've only been in love once and that I have ended relationships when the guy I was dating said it too soon (Two weeks to be specific). It shows that he has no concept of what love really is.

I can honestly say that I've loved someone. he's my best friend and I liked him all throughout high school. we were always best friends and never hooked up or had anything beyond friendship. I figured once he got a girlfriend or I did, I'd stop thinking about him. but I still do. I thought once we went to different colleges, I wouldn't want to be with him anymore...but I do. I agree though...people throw this word around too much--even I've done it in relationships. I think a lot of people confuse their feelings.

It can and does happen believe it or not. There is definately alot of "lust" and "infatuation" out there, and i agree that the words "I love you" are used much too frequently, but this is what guys will say when they want into a girls pants, cause they know that is what the girl wants to hear! So my answer is yes!!!!

I became infatuated with a guy when I was 17. We became friends and I didn't know how to deal with all the feelings I had for him... he didn't treat me especially great or anything.. which was messed up and very unhealthy. I blew up and stormed away and we didn't talk for a year.
He apologized one random day and our friendship grew, eventually we ended up becoming roomates- I saw his best and worst sides, and I can say I loved him. I loved that guy for years. I didn't deal with it in the best way and made many mistakes, and we aren't close anymore because of those mistakes and because he would never be the kind of man I'd want to spend my life with... but I did love him. I loved him for years!

HONESTLY, I can say that I love my boyfriend. It took me about 10 years to figure out what that was really all about. I believe it means I accept him for who he is, not for who I want him to be. I heard someone say that love is accepting a person BECAUSE of their faults & quirks, not IN SPITE of them.
I think a lot of people throw the "L" word around because it's a "feel good" word. Who doesn't want to be told they're loved? But sometimes it's overused, or else it's used in sort of a universal "love thy neighbor" sense.
The ability to truly love another means you've found out how to truly love and accept yourself, and I don't think many younger/inexperienced people can do that. They're still trying to find out who THEY are - they're not ready to learn another person.
Great Q - I'm curious to see the other responses.

You know if everyone would answer this question honestly it would surprise the hell out of me. Everyone says they have loved someone with all their heart and soul, but most folks don't even know what true love is. Hell I am 33 years old been married three times and have just separated from my third marriage, and have just now found my first true love. Sure I thought I loved my ex husbands, but after a while with them I found myself wanting to linger off ( trying to find a way to spend time away from them) When you truly love someone you wont to spend every free minute with them that you can, you would give your life to save theirs. True love comes with No conditions.
