Nearsighted people can't see things that are far away.
Farsighted people can't see things that are near.
Kind of confusing, but there you go.

Nearsighted people can see things that are NEAR, or close, (such as 1-5 feet) without assistance, but usually require glasses for general vision. Farsighted people, on the other hand, can clearly see things at great distances (I am farsighted, and I can read street signs several blocks away) and yet have difficulty with things that are close-up, like reading or watching TV or using a computer.

If you're nearsighted you can read a book at arm's length but you can't make out far away details like writing on a billboard. If you're farsighted it's the opposite, you can read something far away but not close up. You'd need glasses to correct the problem.

A near-sighted person cannot see at a distance, everything is blurry.

A far-sighted person has trouble seeing things up close and sees them blurry.

The irony of this whole this is that at a certain age, near-sighted people (myopia) around the age or 40 or so, begin to need bifocals which means they have lost their ability to see things close and need both types to read with. That is why they are called reading glasses. I thought my eyes were going crazy because the musical notes became hard to read and I would rub my eyes to clear them and a wise person told me I needed bifocals.

Nearsighted people are people who can read with out needing glasses and can not see clearly far distances with out needing to use glasses. Farsighted people can see far with no help but need glasses to read.

The best way to remember the difference between near sighted and far sighted is it to think of them as the opposite of there own name. Near sighted means you have trouble seeing far away or at a distance. Far sighted means that you have trouble seeing near you or things close to you.
Near sighted good vision close up (not good at a distance)
Far sighted good vision at a distance (not good close up)
