Ok I'm not a perv... but I am curious how do birds reproduce? Does the mom bird lay the egg and dad bird "sperminate" it then or do the have sex? If they have sex how... Not like dogs obvoiusly not like dogs (all those tail feathers) And does it hurt the mom bird to lay an egg? I know this is a stupid question but im curious... Please Help!

It's pretty similar to what dogs do. They have tiny little anatomy inside that takes a lot of effort to control and use. They mate first and the egg which like humans is inside gets fertilized, and then the shell forms and the egg gets laid. It is really hit and miss not all eggs get fertilized, again like humans there is a narrow window of opportunity, sometimes it is spot on, sometimes they need to try again.

It's actually kinda weird to observe, I about died laughing the first time my birds mated, I thought wow, that looks awkward.

But the sweet thing is, is that they usually mate for life and develop a tight knit relationship. They practice foreplay, they try very hard to make eye contact during, and even cuddle and show affection after wards. It makes it seem less "dirty" when you see the whole ritual.

Egg laying only hurts when the bird is new to it, or if they wait to long to lay and the shell gets too hard. That is called egg binding and a vet needs to intervene otherwise the mommy may die. I let the mommy soak in a dish of warm water and it usually helps...like a water birth.

The female will hold her tail and head up and the male will get on top of her and inseminate her. Then in about 3 days she will lay an egg. after some time depending on the type of bird the egg will hatch little baby birdies. That's all. the sex doesn't hurt the female but it may be a little uncomfortable.

As far as the mating act is concerned, they put their two cloacas together and male inserts sperm into here. (True penis is a feature of mammals, so some bird males have an "intromittent penetration organ" but it is not a true penis. (reptiles penis-not is called hemipenes) She sheds a egg shell around the fertilized egg after the mating and lays the amniote land egg that needs incubation. The mating of eagles is IN THE AIR. here is a link for more repro info on birds....hey we learned something new today! :o) wee hee!

They have cloacas (a hole for excretion and reproduction). They just push cloacas up against each other and it happens. Then the female lays the eggs.
