I have a choice of 2 free cars but I don't know which one is better.
The first car is a 1993 Buick Centry that has 70,000 miles on it.
The second is a minivan - a 1998 Ford Windstar but it has 20,000 miles on it.
Which vehicle do you think is better? Is it better to have the older car with less miles or the newer car with 50,000 more miles on it?

Thank you for pointing out my mistake. The 1998 Ford Windstar has 120,000 miles, not not not 20,000.

Doing the math backwards, I think that the windstar has 120,000 miles, not just 20k. That being the case, I'd go for the Buick with less miles. Sounds like someone drove the heck out of the Ford, so you have the potential for more problems. Also, pardon the stereotype, but an older client base tends to drive Buicks, so with those few miles, sounds like it might have been driven by a little old lady or something, or at least someone who didn't drive it to death. Check the oil and such, make sure it hasn't been sitting too long, and go with the buick.

if it's the older car with less miles on it then you should have it checked out before you think it is as good as you think it really is. The longer a car sits without being driven the more parts can sieze and dry rot or be gummed up. Make sure there isn't sludge in the motor, check the quality of the gas, check the tires for life, check all hoses and brake/fuel lines, warped rotors, etc. As long as it has maintained then it should be the better buy considering the lower miles. Any car with more miles is more prone to major problems...

Well which one do you want to be seen in? if that doesnt matter than choose the one with less miles on it-a van has many uses not just for soccor moms. Also a newer car you dont have to buy many parts for it but then again a buick does kinda last long. Good luck on that.

Did you word it correctly? if so, it looks like the windstar is newer and has less miles. If so, I would say take the mini van. Have you filed for a carfax report on each one? that might give you more information to make up your mind.

I'd go for the Windstar - although it has more miles on it (despite your apparent switching of the amounts?), it's newer, and will be more fuel-efficient. It may also cost less to insure - check with your insurance agent.

Both are pretty good vehicles. I would check each vehicle for leaks (water/oil) and then check the reviews on both. Compare the 2 by the best quality according to the review. Also, check for recalls on both

Take the older car with less miles. It will last longer and then you can sell it for more money because of the low miles.

The older car has more miles, not less, you must have incorrectly put the miles in.
