The audacity is a good software to use but wait.....
Most of the latest sound cards (full duplex) have a built in capability of recording, editing and mixing of music. If you have a full duplex sound card, all you need is install its utilities (that come with the sound card in a CD) and you will find the recording software. For example, if you have Sound Blaster Audigy card, look in the programs and you will find Smart Recorder in Creative. Its one of the best recorders and mixer. You can record kareoke songs, external audio, TV, DVD and virtually any thing.

I like Audacity as well. Its easy to use. Go to http://www.freewarefiles.com and locate it there. They also have other software that may be of use to you. Some files are "free", some are "free to download", or otherwise known as trials.

your comp has one in-built to it. start up>upload-ons>entertainment>sound recorder there is not any shrink to the size of it merely save pressing the checklist yet as quickly as the shifting tingy gets in the direction of the 2nd.
