Not now.... we are stretched too thin. Well, we can win it, but it will force a draft and other unpleasant things. We are not prepared, so it will be an uphill climb.

NO all we would accomplish would be for nothing as china has a mutual defense treaty with North Korea thus they are protected by china's ICBM's and SLBM's. Even if you got china out of the equation South Korea still gets flattened and a major part of the world economy will be out of action for decades. There is the other wild card to consider what would the Koreans do with the nukes they have already? I know they can't mount it on a missile but maybe they can deliver it like a mine to an American port by submarine. Then there is Japan which is within easy missile range I would bet they do have chemical weapons to launch on there missiles and that could be disastrous in a crowded country like Japan. While we would win militarily the cost would be enormous to that region in this case the cure is probably worse than the disease.

Certainly. But not now....not when we are already in one war. Fighting in 2 wars is like fighting on 2 fronts in the same war. That's what started the end for the Nazi's. They were fighting the allies in Europe on the west and the Soviets on the east.

Also, if war with NK comes we'll have to make sure we have excellent supply lines FOB/supply bases in Japan and let the military win the damn thing and keep the politicians out of the decision making at the theater and below level.

What ever you do , don't listen to space monkey

We did not lose that last war, and today's military is drastically different then the ones the Chinese faced last time. But since the question was can we win a war against Korea, let me tell you that they are already fighting a war, it's called hunger. You can not fight on an empty stomach. To defeat them we would only have to complete blockade them for about few months.

Yes. I think we could achieve victory far more easily there than in Iraq or another muslim country. We already have troops and equipment in South Korea. Most of the people there hate the government and would turn against it at the first oppourtunity. Their soldiers are ill equipped. Their nukes are pathetic compared to our nuclear arsenal but I doubt those would come into play. I think we could achieve victory far more easily there than in Iraq or another muslim country. There are no religious fanatics willing to sacrifice themselves.

No.

Since people are busy letting the troops down in Iraq by declaring defeat - how hard do you expect them to fight in the next war?

Why should they risk their lives when the American people will deny them their victory?

If we set up and actually go in to win and not pussyfoot around, we could take them in about 3-4 weeks tops. Now if China jumps in again it would get nasty.
