For the obvious reasons, like lack of exercise. But also because you are to an extent brainwashed by the media. You get your view of the world influenced by the view of middle-class TV producers and advertising corporations.
I think the media - particularly TV - has a lot to answer for, particularly in the emphasis in the programmes of today on humiliation and bullying.

I believe that tv is bad for you because it takes away your time that could be devoted to something productive. They're are people who actually schedule their life around tv shows, such as soap operas or football games. I'm not saying it's wrong to watch tv, it's just important to not get so wrapped up in it that your family is affected by it. This is the same with the internet and almost everything else in life.

TV is not necessarily bad for you, but sitting too close to it or watching too much of it can harm you. You should try to mix TV with other activities such as internet, reading, going to the pub (or youth group if you're under 18 ;)) and actually talking to people.
TV is great for entertainment but shouldn't become a crutch for not experiencing real life.

I don't think that TV is necessarily bad for you as long (like anything else) you use it in moderation. If it causes you to adopt a more sedentary lifestyle it could cause weight gain. For your children just make sure that they watch some educational programs as much as they watch anything else.

Because instead of watching TV you could be using the Internet which tends to have more intellectual content.
