he has not had the lumbar puncture test done for menangitis because they are saying he doesn't have any stiff joints which doens't make sense to me because he is 2 1/2 and really can't speak and is always crying because of the uncomfortable high fever. but they are saying because the "doctor" can move the childs neck and legs then he doesn't have any stiffness and it can't be menangitis. (Sorry about spelling)

he is probably uncomfortable from the high fever

if the doctor thinks he is not very drowsy and not very photophobic (eyes bothered by the light) and not having a stiff neck, then the doctor probably doesn't think your boy has meningitis

a lumbar puncture is a very distressing test involving sticking needles into your child's back near the spinal cord to get some spinal fluid out

it is not something you would wish on any child

in MY opinion, it is something I would only do to a child if I was very worried that the child might have meningitis - and your doctor obviously was not

bring your child back to the emergency department for review if he gets worse - particularly if he gets drowsy, or if the light bothers his eyes
